Toyota Motor 14 Management Principles

Posted in Daily Distortion on July 31st, 2005 by kimi – 2 Comments

1) Base your management decisions on a long-term philosophy even at the expense of short-term financial goals
2) Create continuous process flow to bring problems to the surface
3) Use pull systems to avoid overproduction
4) Level out the workload (work like the tortoise and not the hare)
5) Build a culture of stopping to fix problems, to get quality right the first time
6) Standardized tasks are the foundation for continuous improvement
7) Use visual control so no problems are hidden
8) Use only reliable, thoroughly tested technology that serves your people and processes
9) Grow leaders who thoroughly understand the work, live the philosophy, and teach it to others
10) Develop exceptional people and teams who follow your company’s philosophy
11) Respect your extended network of partners and suppliers by challenging them and helping them improve
12) Go and see for yourself to thoroughly understand the situation
13) Make decisions slowly, by consensus, thoroughly considering all options [and then] implement decisions rapidly
14) Become a learning organization through relentless reflection and continuous improvement.

No wonder they became the world’s greatest manufacturer. Read the latest issue of Fortune magazine to find out more.

I read the synopsis of this book last year and unfortunately, i still can’t afford to buy it. Cost RM 99.80 at Kinokuniya, KLCC. Go to Times Bookstore KLCC to get a better deal.

I received a text from sutan last night, mentioning that petrol price will be increased tomorrow. Duh! not again! In less than 3 months, unleaded petrol price increased twice. Now, a liter of RON 97 petrol is at RM 1.62. Eventhough the increment is only 10 cent per liter, i can feel the heat. I travel by car to workplace which requires at least RM 50 of petrol for 5 working days. That is taken from a best-case basis if the traffic is smooth flowing. If the traffic is as usual hell, i might spend at least RM20-30 more than usual. Now i need to cough up an extra 6.5% from the usual fuel expenditure. Bah! It seems that i need to refrain myself in buying extra magazine from now on.

I just wonder, who control the oil price globally? The middle east countries are the top producer of oil and yet, they are losing power in determining the ‘right’ price. There must be wrong, somewhere, me think. I don’t think this is got to do with the ‘supply & demand’ theory. Not at all.

Time to switch to a different type of transportation. Perhaps, LRT is the best choice, or better still, i’m thinking of buying a motorcycle. Honda EX5 is a good choice.
