Posted in Ham Radio on July 28th, 2005 by kimi – Be the first to comment

I received a call from MCMC this morning. She told me that my license is ready for pickup. Wow! This is cool, MCMC really know how to serve the customer well. *Elaborating my experience as customer, i wont* Sounds like a Yoda huh :p

Jump into my car, turn on the radio as usual. No, no, no that radio, my mobile rig. Manage to catch several on-air conversation on 9WG318 repeater – 145.700Mhz, dup -ve.

Once arrived in MCMC, i grabbed the envelope and smile to myself. Yes! Now i’m now a licensed ham radio operator.

My callsign is 9W2KMI / Niner-Whiskey-Two-Kilo-Mike-India

Let’s QSO, i would to make friends with others no matter which continent they are living.

At this point moment, as a rookie, i’ll be monitoring VHF band only. I’m learning how to build a home-brew antenna.

The proof…hehe

Frequency Monitoring – Part 1

Posted in Ham Radio on July 26th, 2005 by kimi – Be the first to comment

During my journey from Serdang to KL this afternoon, i managed to fire up the scan function from my rig. As usual, i really into scanning the Band 1 ranges from 118-173.995 Mhz. Igot numerous of interesting frequency to listen to..hehe. Below is the list, i dunno who is utilizing it, which of it out of amateur band range. Check it out:

1) 477.225 Mhz – group of ppl talking…i dunno, conducting business, perhaps.
2) 132.800 Mhz – Air Traffic Controller communicating with pilots.
3) 124.200 Mhz – same as above.
4) 143.530 Mhz – private group, handling an event, me think.

Will post more freq once i come across it. Got to go. Got to V40 9W2BBS.

My Vios & spanking new rig

Posted in Ham Radio on July 24th, 2005 by kimi – 2 Comments

Finally! I’ve sucessfully installed the rig into my Vios. Thank to
9W2LRT. He is so helpful, knowledgeable & friendly. I owed him a
nice teh tarik session (eventhough i don’t dig teh tarik). Still can’t
QSO any station since i’ve yet to receive an official callsign.
Expecting a call from MCMC tomorrow.

Meanwhile, i’m so exciting when i managed to listen to numbers of band
(IC-208H has got a wideband receiver, so i can listen to almost
limitless station around). Read this amazing rig’s spec here

For time being, being a SWL really thrilled me. I monitored several freq such as:

1) RKW
2) PAT
3) MARTS
4) Aiport weather report. Heck, i dunno its real name. Duh!

I’ll shoot some pic of my installed rig during one of these days.

Opss..F1 will start veryyy soon. Kimi is leading on the starting grid.
Hopefully he will get the chequered flag as the same order.

Ferrariiii…Where are u?????

Registering my callsign & my new rig

Posted in Ham Radio on July 22nd, 2005 by kimi – Be the first to comment

I have submitted my AA form yesterday afternoon to MCMC. There goes another RM180. The form being submitted with 3 choice of callsign. I’m really hope that i get the first choice call sign. It really sound like my name, which i think people can memorize it easily. Looking forward for a call from MCMC.

Meanwhile, Abon is on his way back from Indon. He bought me my first rig. I’m very very excited. I’m expected this rig tonite:

1) ICOM IC-208H
2) Diamond Antenna SG9500M
3) Antenna mounting, heck i dunno which one. Pak Wahyu said it is from Japan.

Will install it during this weekend. Can’t wait to QSO the world. Opss…Klang Valley would be a better bet.

Nice to know that our business partner in Indo is amateur radio enthusiast too. Pak Wahyu is JZ30BBB.

Radio Amateur Examination

Posted in Ham Radio on July 9th, 2005 by kimi – Be the first to comment

What a day! After friday prayer, Fauzi PAT rang me up asking whether i have checked the RAE result. I’ve been waiting for a month to the result, now it is there in MCMC website. I’m shaking a lil bit before getting to know that i passed the exam…hehe. Phew, i think this is the hardest exam since CISSP on last september. I learned for RAE by myself and with somehelp by fellow buddies, fahroe & bobo. Alhamdulillah, they managed to pass the exam as well.

I can’t wait to go to MCMC to register my Class B Apparatus Assignment. Time to fork more dough to buy a mobile & handy rig. Time to QSO the WORLD!
